Most time in the "heavy neck" patient, things like liposuction, KYBELLA and CoolSculpting will not be a great answer. The reason is that the look of "heaviness" is not only from fat in the subcutaneous compartment (which is what those modalities treat). Also, if you do empty out the volume present under the chin and then do not address the ex... Read More

There is no amount of filler or "skin tightening" devices that will give you a result like this. Do not add filler to your jawline and nasolabial folds or cheeks thinking that you will lift your neck or sharpen your jaw line. It is an anatomic impossibility. Only surgery will get you from point A to point B. Filler is a wonderful tool in prop... Read More

There is no other treatment as effective as a lower face and neck lift to rejuvenate the neck and to eliminate jowls. Energy devices that are marketed to "tighten" the skin may work in the most minor cases, but they may not. In fact, they may actually do the opposite and melt fat leaving you looking older than you did prior to treatment. Addi... Read More

What Is a Deep Plane Facelift?

A deep plane facelift is a form of facelift surgery that addresses the deep layers of tissue, resulting in a long-lasting improvement. Unlike a standard facelift, which addresses the soft tissue of the face but not the deeper layers of tissue, a deep plane facelift targets the underlying structures of the face as well as the skin, enabling Dr. Collins to work with your unique anatomy to address signs of aging at the source.

A deep plane facelift tightens the skin and repositions the facial tissue, resulting in less strain on the skin while achieving a refreshed, natural appearance. There is no pulling of the skin or tissues; rather, the surgeon repositions the internal facial structures, including skin, muscle, ligaments, and fat pads that shift and stretch as we age, restoring lost volume and achieving a long-lasting result that differs from traditional facelift surgery.

The focus on targeting vertical sagging and volume loss in the face separates the deep plane facelift technique from other facial aging treatments. The skin is not simply pulled horizontally to smooth loose skin. Instead, the underlying tissues are repositioned vertically, back where they were when you were younger, and the excess skin is removed and lifted, resulting in an overall improvement to your facial contours.

This type of facelift surgery requires advanced training to understand the structure of the face, the aging process, and the steps required to restore your youthful contours. By addressing the vertical sagging that happens as your face ages, a deep plane facelift enables your surgeon to reposition the muscle, fat and tissues in the face where it belongs while also tightening lax skin.

Thanks to the focus on deeper layers of tissue and the skin, the results of a deep plane facelift are long-lasting, enabling you to age gracefully over time.

Recovery From a Deep Plane Facelift

Dr. Collins focuses on achieving natural-looking results with minimal scarring and bruising to ensure excellent outcomes. She positions incisions in the hairline and natural creases in the skin to minimize visible scarring, and works to minimize trauma to the tissue to keep bruising and swelling to a minimum, making your recovery quicker and easier.

After surgery, you will be prescribed medication to keep you as comfortable as possible while reducing swelling. Dr. Collins and her team will provide detailed pre-and post-op instructions to ensure optimal results. As you recover, you will see results immediately, and they will continue to improve over several weeks.

Most patients experience some swelling and bruising for the first few days following surgery, which should subside within 7 to 10 days. Most patients are able to resume normal activities and return to work within 2 weeks following deep plane facelift surgery.

Final results will be visible within 6 months following surgery as swelling subsides and your skin fully heals.
