Belotero Balance® is a treatment that can smooth out moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and lines.
Belotero Balance® is made with hyaluronic acid, a compound that occurs naturally in the body. Like elastin and collagen, it helps keep the skin smooth and supple.
As people age, their bodies begin producing less of all three compounds, causing their skin to become dry and wrinkled.
Belotero Balance® works by restoring hyaluronic acid to the body. As the body absorbs the hyaluronic acid, the client’s skin regains the smoothness of youth.
What does the procedure involve?
Since hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance in the body, the patient may not need to undergo an allergy test beforehand. The patient may be able to have the treatment on the same day as their consultation.
The doctor may use a fine needle to inject Belotero Balance® into the treatment site. If the patient is sensitive to needles, the doctor may apply a topical anesthetic first. Most patients don’t need it, and they will only feel a pricking during the injection.
The effects will be immediately visible, and they will last for approximately six months. Many patients get injections once or twice a year.
Are there risks?
The most common side effects are redness, swelling and itching. They usually last a day or two.
While patients can generally return to their usual activities after an injection, they should avoid sun exposure or strenuous exercise for about 24 hours as they can cause or exacerbate the side effects.
The patient should also avoid alcohol, aspirin, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for 24 hours for the same reason.
Who should not use Belotero Balance®?
Patients with a history of severe allergies should not use Belotero Balance®. Patients with a history of allergic reactions towards gram-positive bacterial proteins should also not use Belotero Balance®.
It is not yet known how Belotero Balance® will affect people under 21 or women who nursing or pregnant. Patients who fit these descriptions should talk to the doctor before getting Belotero Balance®.
People with inflamed or infected skin at the treatment site should wait until their condition has cleared up before getting Belotero Balance®.
Patients using aspirin or other medications that can affect blood clotting need to talk to the doctor. People taking medication that affects the immune system should also talk to the doctor beforehand.
