There are very few things that are as inspiring as reading the story of an individual who set their mind to lose weight and were able to accomplish that goal. It seems like the more weight the individual had to lose, the more inspiring their story is.

Unfortunately, for many people losing large amounts of weight does not produce the results they had imagined. After losing 100 pounds or more, they do not have the thin and toned appearance they dreamed of.

When a person loses a lot of weight, it is difficult for their skin to shrink back to its original shape and size. Thankfully, this does not mean that all is lost.

In fact, for many patients, body contouring surgery has allowed them to complete the effect they were aiming for after losing significant amounts of weight.

What is Body Contouring Surgery?

Body contouring surgery is designed to help patients who have achieved significant amounts of weight loss to remove excessive skin left over after fat loss.

The surgery will help an individual’s clothes fit better, allow them to participate more comfortably in the activities they love, and give them the confidence they need to show off their weight loss to the world.

Who Are Good Candidates for Body Contouring Surgery?

The best way for an individual to determine if they are a good candidate for this type of surgery after significant weight loss is to sit down and consult with our surgeon.

There are a few criteria that the patient may need to meet in order for them to have the best results from their surgery.

First and foremost, we will look at the patient’s weight trend. If an individual has lost a significant amount of weight, they have been able to keep their weight stable for at least one year, and they are not considering losing more weight in the future, they may be a good candidate for the surgery.

We’re going to examine the overall health of the patient. If a person is in good health and does not have any chronic medical conditions, they may be a candidate for body contouring surgery. When an individual is in poor health, the procedure may not be recommended.

Next, we are going to look at the nutrition and lifestyle of the potential patient. If an individual does not have a healthy diet, if they have protein and vitamin deficiencies, or if an individual has a history of smoking, all of these things can negatively affect how the surgery turns out.
